What To Do Before You Arrive

If you cannot reach us immediately, these temporary steps may help reduce pain or prevent further damage. Note: These are short-term solutions only.

Severe Toothache

Rinse mouth with warm water. Floss gently to remove trapped food. If swollen, apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek. Take OTC pain relievers (Tylenol/Ibuprofen) as directed. Do not put aspirin directly on the gums.

Chipped or Broken Tooth

Save any pieces you can find. Rinse mouth with warm water. If bleeding, apply gauze or a moistened tea bag for 10 minutes. Use a cold compress on the cheek to reduce swelling.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Time is critical (1-hour window). Hold the tooth by the crown (top), not the root. Rinse gently if dirty, but do not scrub. Try to reinsert into the socket. If not possible, store in a cup of milk or saliva. Call us immediately.

Lost Crown or Filling

Crown: Clean the inside and coat with toothpaste or dental adhesive, then slip back onto the tooth. Never use super glue.

Broken Braces/Wires

If a wire is poking you, try to push it back with a pencil eraser or cover the sharp end with orthodontic wax (or a small cotton ball). Do not cut the wire if possible to avoid swallowing it.

Soft Tissue Injury

For cuts to the tongue, cheek, or lips: Rinse with salt water. Apply firm pressure with gauze or a tea bag for 15-20 minutes. Apply ice to the outside of the area.
⚠️ ABSCESS WARNING: If you have a painful, pimple-like swelling on your gum, this is an infection. Rinse with mild salt water and call us immediately. Infections can spread if left untreated.
🛑 UNCONTROLLABLE BLEEDING: If bleeding from a soft tissue injury does not stop after 15-20 minutes of pressure, go to a hospital emergency room immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions: If You Have An Emergency

A dental emergency includes severe tooth pain, swelling, infection, broken or knocked-out teeth, or any oral issue causing significant discomfort. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s best to contact us as soon as possible.
Call our office immediately. Our team will listen, assess your situation, and help you get relief as quickly as possible. You will never be judged for waiting or for the condition of your teeth.
Yes. We make every effort to see emergency patients the same day. Our goal is to relieve pain quickly and address the problem, not just mask the symptoms.
We believe emergencies should be handled with clarity and compassion. We will explain your options honestly, discuss costs upfront, and help you make a decision that feels right for you.
Emergency rooms can help manage pain or infection, but they typically cannot treat the dental problem itself. Seeing a dentist allows the underlying issue to be properly diagnosed and treated.
We focus first on relieving your pain. Then we evaluate the cause, explain what’s happening, and outline next steps. You will receive respectful, compassionate care every step of the way.
